Human Design statistics

How common is each type, profile and authority? Most figures circulating online have no stated source. These are computed from 995,040 charts, the method is written out below, and the limitation is stated plainly. Free to reuse with attribution.

How these numbers were produced

We sampled 995,040 birth moments, one every 37 minutes of UTC from 1 January 1950 to 1 January 2020, and derived a full chart for each one with our production engine running on Swiss Ephemeris. The 37 minute step is deliberately coprime with the hour so the sample does not land repeatedly on the same minute of the clock.

What this is not: it is the base rate of the algorithm over uniformly sampled birth moments, not a census of living people. Real births are not uniform across the day or the year, so a population of real people would differ, probably by a little rather than a lot. Anyone quoting these figures should quote that limitation with them.

How common is each type

The five types, most common first. Generators and Manifesting Generators together account for roughly seven charts in ten.

How common is each profile

The twelve profiles fall into two clearly separated groups rather than a smooth gradient. Six sit near 14.4% each and six near 2.2%, a difference of roughly six and a half times, because of which line pairs the geometry of the wheel can actually produce.

How common is each inner authority

Emotional authority is the majority case, which is worth knowing before reading advice that treats it as a special condition.

Authority within each type

The figure most often missing elsewhere. Authority is not distributed evenly inside a type, and the conditional rate is what actually matters when you are reading your own chart. Percentages here are of that type, not of everyone.

Free to reuse, including commercially, with attribution to Innaluma and a link to this page. That is the whole licence, CC BY 4.0. No permission request needed and no need to ask first.

If you are citing a single number, cite the conditional one where it exists. "71.6% of Manifestors have Emotional authority" tells a reader something that "51.5% of people have Emotional authority" does not.

Common questions

What is the rarest Human Design type?

Reflectors, at 0.92% of charts, roughly one in 109. Manifestors are second at 8.59%. The gap between them is large: there are about nine Manifestors for every Reflector.

What percentage of people are Projectors?

21.76% of charts, so a little over one in five. That makes Projectors the third most common type, behind Generators at 37.13% and Manifesting Generators at 31.61%.

Why are six profiles common and six rare?

It follows from the geometry rather than from anything meaningful about the people. The six profiles near 14.4% are the ones the wheel produces readily from the 88 degree solar arc between the Personality and Design positions. The other six, near 2.2%, require line pairings that arc reaches far less often.

Are these figures a survey of real people?

No, and that distinction matters. They are the base rate of the chart algorithm over birth moments sampled evenly across seventy years. Real births cluster by time of day and season, so a real population would come out somewhat differently. We publish the method so you can judge how much that matters for your use.

Can I use these numbers in my own article or video?

Yes. Attribution to Innaluma with a link to this page is all we ask, and the CSV is there if you want to chart it yourself. If you quote a figure, please carry the limitation note with it.
